Snow Break!

We currently snowed in for the third day in a row. Snow started falling on Tuesday and has not stopped since then. I ventured out today to take a few pictures of the pretty snow!

We are currently enjoying lots of Netflix, hot chocolate, books, and snuggles. I hope everyone is staying safe and warm!

Whimsey Box

If you know me or follow me on Instagram, you know that I love to craft. For awhile I got stuck in a crafting rut. I made the same type of craft over and over again. While I still enjoyed making it, I don't have anywhere else in my house to use glitter clothespins. Of course, I went to Pinterest searching for new craft ideas to try. I found a few but it was so hard to figure out the materials I needed. I often had to go to several different stores to acquire all the materials and sometimes I under estimated the cost. Being a teacher (with no summer paycheck) I am definitely a crafter on a budget!
Look at how pretty this box is! Also I love this quote!
One day I came across the Whimsey Box website. I remember reading about it and thinking it was almost too good to be true. Whimsey Box is a subscription box for crafts! It is amazing. Each month they send you a box with all of the materials and directions you need in order to complete a craft. I absolutely love it! The best part? It is only $15 a month and it comes to my mailbox! I get so excited every time I come home and there is a Whimsey Box waiting for me.

Macrame, surprises in the box, leather wrap bracelet
Whimsey Box has caused me to break out of my crafting comfort zone and try new things. I have to admit, sometimes I would get frustrated and have to come back to the craft later. How ever I am extremely grateful for the new crafting skills I have learned.

Calendar include in January's box, inkodye, beaded necklace

I definitely recommend this subscription box for crafters or anyone who wants to learn to craft. Whimsey Box provides step by step directions (with pictures) as well as links to videos you can watch in case you need extra support! The videos are very helpful.

Felt clutch, Textured clay dish, Tie dye tote bag

I actually picked a craft from the Whimsey Box to make for my sisters for Valentine's Day (shh! it's a secret!). Please let me know if you try it out! I would love to hear your thoughts! Also let me know if you have any awesome crafts I should try. I am always looking for something new and different!

Are you crafty? What is your favorite craft?

2013 Books

Hello Friends! I am going to try to keep up with this blog again. It has been a great place for me over the past several years and I have missed it so. My goal is to write on a variety of topics including teaching, life, books, and crafts. Here's to hoping I will be consistent! :)

Let's start off with books!

These are all of the books I read in 2013.

My favorite book was The Light Between the Oceans. This book was fantastic. Although I had tears in my eyes throughout the whole book, it was amazing. I loved getting to know the characters, Tom and Isabel. The story takes place in 1920 and Tom is a light house keeper on an island off the coast of Australia. The light house keeper is the only one who lives on the island and it is a long journey to the main land. I could relate to some of the thoughts, fears and emotional struggles Isabel was going through living on the isolated island. I also enjoyed this book because it challenged me. I had to really pay attention to the dialect and use context clues to figure out what a handful of words meant. I really enjoyed having to think about what I was reading. I would highly recommend this book to anyone.

I also enjoyed reading The Fault in Our Stars.  This was a wonderful YA book. I wish I had read books like this when I was in high school. It was interesting to see the world from Hazel and Augustus' point of view. It really helped me put the struggles in my life in perspective. Their relationship fascinated me. I would highly recommend this book as well.

The only book I did not enjoy was Her Fearful Symmetry. I had high hopes for this book because I loved The Time Traveler's Wife. However, Her Fearful Symmetry was a little too strange for my taste.  Her Fearful Symmetry  is about twins that in order to inherit anything from their deceased aunt, Elspeth they have to live in her flat in London for a year. This book did keep me engaged because I wanted to know how it ended for each character. As I continued to read the story it continued to become weirder. My brain had a really hard time comprehending the events in the story. Give it a try, you might like it.

I am currently reading The Book Theif. It has captivated me so far. My goal this year is to read 26 books by my 26th birthday (apparently I am already 2 books behind).

Have you read any of these books? What did you think of them? Have any recommendations for new books I should read?
