Making a Difference - Box Tops for Education

I am sure you have all heard of Box Tops for Education.
If not you've probably seen it on your favorite cereal and ignored it.

Box Tops for Education is an amazing program that helps out schools.
As a future teacher I am all about helping out the schools.
For every box top cut off and turned in, the school gets 10 cents.
Every cent counts.
You don't have to have kids in school to donate box tops.
You can take them to your local school or if you want mail them to me and I will get them to a school.
It takes maybe an extra 3 minutes out your day to cut out that little box top that is worth so much.
Please check out the Box Tops for Education website to learn more about the program and ways you can help!

Book 24 - Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince

I finished reading Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince by J.K. Rowling.
In this book, Harry and his friends return for their 6th year at Hogwarts. They are disappointed when they discover that Professor Snape has finally become the professor of Defense Against the Dark Arts. Harry begins to learn more about his connection to Voldemort and what needs to be done in order to kill him.

I really enjoyed this book, as I did most of the other Harry Potter books. This book was interesting because of the information found out about the connection between Voldemort and Harry. There was a lot of suspense (for me) and action. This book was also full of a few surprises. This one was probably in my top three of the Harry Potter series. I highly recommend this book along with the rest of the series. I am very excited to start the seventh and final book!

Making A Difference - Bag It Forward

As a future teacher I am head over heels for school supplies.
Tim thinks I'm a total dork because I get so excited to walk into Wal-Mart and spend at least 20 minutes in the school supply section. I love to fill my basket with fresh yellow pencils, notebook paper, markers, and index cards. A lot of schools and students are unable to afford their own school supplies.

Elmer's will be donating up $10,000 to Adopt a Classroom
They are donating $10 for every blog post written about the Virtual Bag It Forward.
It's something simple that will make a big difference.

I am bagging it forward. Will you??
Here are the official rules:

ELMER’S VIRTUAL BAG IT FORWARD RULES

  • Copy and paste these rules into your blog post or Facebook note.
  • Create a post giving a “virtual bag of school supplies” to other bloggers or write about your Back to School shopping trip at Walmart.
  • Link back to the person who gave you a bag of school supplies.
  • Let each person you are giving a virtual bag of school supplies know you have given them a bag.
  • Leave your link in the Elmer’s Virtual Bag It Forward comment section. You can also find the official rules of this virtual #bagitforward program there.
  • Elmer’s is donating $10 for each blog participating in the Virtual Bag It Forward Donation to Adopt-A-Classroom (up to total of $10,000 for blog posts written by September 10,2010).
  • Please note that only one blog post per blog url will count towards the donation.

New Bern!

This weekend Tim and I took a trip to New Bern with his family.

I was very excited about it. We got to spend a lot of time with his family and his grandparents which was really fun. We went out to the river house and spent some time there playing Bananagrams (my new favorite game).
The river was so beautiful. Give me a good book and I could have stayed there all day.

Not the best picture of us (my hair was crazy)...but I love my new sunglasses. I could no longer wait for the Project You ones. I broke down and bought my own pair.

On Sunday Tim and I spent some time walking around downtown New Bern. I kept my fingers crossed that I would run into Nicholas Sparks, but sadly I didn't. It was still a great trip. :)
Did you know New Bern used to be the capitol of North Carolina?
This is Tryon Palace. It is so big and beautiful. It was the governor's home back in the 1700's.

Also New Bern is celebrating their 300th anniversary all year long. They have bears like this one all over the town.
You can go here to check out all the other bears. They made me laugh.

I loved this house.
I loved the small town historic feel of New Bern and enjoyed spending time with Tim and his family. If you get the opportunity to visit you should.

Hope you all had an amazing weekend!

All My Doubts Fade Away...

After taking classes all summer and spending a lot of time just learning about teaching I was slowly starting to have a few doubts about whether or not I still wanted to teach.
I was afraid that I had been determined to be a teacher for so long that I just didn't know what else to do with my life. This week I started my one week internship at a year round elementary school.
All my doubts are gone. I know this is what I want to do and I love spending all day with the students. They are amazing, the teachers are amazing, and the school is amazing. I love everything about it. I am learning so much. I am so grateful my passion and desire has returned. I think I was just getting bored of sitting in college classrooms and listening to lectures all the time. I think the best way for me to learn is from experience and I am loving every minute of it.

I thought I would have a lot of time to blog this week but I probably won't. I will probably have some stories for you once the week is over especially since I am sharing a hotel room with 4 other girls. I hope you are having an amazing week.

What's your passion??

Bzzz. What's that sound? Oh it's me, a busy bee.

I have been so busy lately.
I finished up my last week of actual classes on Thursday (yay!).
14 hours of classes? Check.
Two weeks ago I had to move out of my apartment at 5:30 in the morning.
I was up before the sun!!
I've missed blogging, I have been trying to keep up with reading everyone's blog. I've gotten pretty bad at commenting too.
My life is slowly starting to calm down some, so hopefully I will get back on schedule.
Thanks for all your sweet comments on my last post. They all made me smile.
I hope you all have been doing well!
Hope your weekend is full of wonderful things!!
